Welder Jobs in Saudi Arabia 2026: 6G, 6GR, GTAW+SMAW, Alloy and SS Multi Welders Explained (Tests, Documents and How to Get Hired)

More than 100 welder jobs were posted in Dammam and Jubail on 26 September 2026. Learn what 6G, 6GR, GTAW and SMAW mean, what to expect in a welding test, which documents employers want and how to get shortlisted fast.

Welders are the backbone of every refinery, pipeline and fabrication yard in Saudi Arabia, and the job ads posted on 26 September 2026 prove it. In one day, employers in Dammam and Jubail asked for more than 100 welders: 6GR SMAW welders, CS welders for GTAW+SMAW, alloy welders, CS multi welders and SS multi welders. This guide explains what these welding codes mean, which tests to expect, what documents employers want and how to get shortlisted.

Quick answer: which welder jobs are open in Saudi Arabia today?

Topline Industrial in Dammam needs 25 CS welders for GTAW+SMAW and 25 welders for 6GR SMAW. Amplitude Industrial Services in Jubail needs 30 SS multi welders, with a welding test on 27 September at 5:00 AM. Square Arabia Co. in Jubail needs 10 alloy welders and 10 CS multi welders. All of these jobs are listed on the Wathiq Careers jobs page with full details.

What do 6G, 6GR, GTAW and SMAW mean?

6G is the pipe welding test position in which the pipe is fixed at a 45-degree angle and cannot be rotated. The welder has to weld uphill, overhead, vertical and flat in one joint, which is why 6G is the most requested pipe qualification.

6GR is the same 45-degree position with a restriction ring placed close to the joint. It limits access and simulates tight site conditions. Welders who pass 6GR are trusted on congested piping, especially for T, K and Y connections.

GTAW is gas tungsten arc welding, also called TIG. It is used for clean, high-quality root passes and for stainless steel and alloy pipe.

SMAW is shielded metal arc welding, also called stick welding. It is used for fill and cap passes on carbon steel pipe and structures.

When an ad says GTAW+SMAW, the employer wants a welder who can put in a TIG root and finish the joint with stick electrodes.

CS, SS and alloy: what is the difference?

CS means carbon steel, the most common material on pipelines and structures. SS means stainless steel, which needs clean TIG technique, correct heat input and back purging. Alloy welders work on chrome-moly and other alloy steels, where pre-heating, interpass temperature control and post-weld heat treatment are part of the job. A multi welder is expected to weld more than one process and position, so employers usually test the hardest position first.

What to expect in a welding test

Most Saudi contractors run a practical test before hiring. You weld a test coupon in the position asked in the ad, usually 6G or 6GR. The coupon is then checked visually and by radiography (RT) or a bend test. Under ASME Section IX, the qualification you earn depends on the process, position, material group and pipe diameter of your test coupon. For example, a 6G pass generally qualifies you for all positions, and a pass on pipe of 1 inch to under 2 7/8 inches outside diameter generally covers pipe of 1 inch and larger. Always check the company's WPS and procedure, because clients such as Aramco and SABIC can add their own rules.

Arrive early, bring your own helmet and gloves if possible, check the machine settings before you start and clean every pass. Test mornings like the Jubail SS welder test at 5:00 AM fill up fast.

Documents employers ask for

Today's welder ads ask for these documents: a valid Iqama, Muqeem, passport copy and original, medical fitness, insurance, chamber-attested papers, three months of business GOSI and Ajeer. A CV with experience certificates helps you get shortlisted before the test. If you have previous welder qualification records (WQT or WPQ) or an Aramco or SABIC welder card, bring copies.

How much do welders earn in Saudi Arabia?

Welder rates vary a lot by process and approval. Carbon steel welders on non-Aramco jobs are usually paid less than 6G alloy, SS or Aramco-approved welders, and shutdown jobs pay a premium for long shifts. Compare the full package: hourly rate, guaranteed hours, overtime, FAT (food, accommodation and transport) and how many days after timesheet you are paid.

Tips to get hired faster

Mention your exact qualification in your first message, for example "6G GTAW+SMAW CS, 8 years, valid Iqama, Ajeer available, in Jubail". Attach a clear CV in PDF with your projects, the materials you have welded and your pipe diameter range. Keep your phone ready for test calls, and never pay anyone for a welding test, a job or a visa.
